May the 4th be with you.

May the 4th be with you.

Before we had plugins or presets,
before we knew what sound design was—
we heard the Star Wars universe.

A saber igniting.
The low rumble of a Star Destroyer.
That binary sunset, with two notes that somehow broke your heart.

None of it was real.
But it felt more real than anything.

It wasn’t realism. It was imagination, made audible.
Ben Burtt didn’t just design sounds—
he gave shape to the invisible.

And decades later, those sounds still hold up.
Not because they’re accurate,
but because they’re alive.

That’s the magic:
Sound that doesn’t just fill a scene—
it expands it.
Anchors it.
Lingers long after the picture cuts to black.

Star Wars reminded us:
The most iconic sounds were made with curiosity, not certainty.
That’s still the way.

Today’s a good day to remember
why we fell in love with this work in the first place.

May the 4th be with you.
