Snow White’s Massive Thud

You may have heard the massive thud that Disney’s Snow White made when it dropped—and flopped—into theaters a few weeks ago.
It’s not the first time a legacy reboot has failed to connect with audiences, but something about this one felt… final. Like the audience is done. Not just with Snow White, but with the entire model.
And yet this summer, Hollywood is doubling down: Superman and Fantastic Four—two comic book relics from a bygone era—are being released on the same weekend.
Here’s my prediction:
Both will flop.
Massively.
And that moment will mark the beginning of the end for the oversaturated, aging superhero-industrial complex.
Who are these movies even for anymore?
Superman’s core fans are in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. Gen Z isn’t interested. Gen Alpha doesn’t even know what a Superman is. The Fantastic Four has failed every time it’s been rebooted—and we’re still pretending there’s life left in that IP?
Meanwhile, look at where the real cultural momentum is:
Video games.
A Minecraft Movie just shattered the most recent box office records. The Last of Us proved that gaming IP can deliver prestige. Fallout debuted to massive streaming numbers. Gaming has what superhero franchises have lost: fresh energy, immersive worlds, and real emotional stakes
My prediction:
The next generation of Hollywood blockbusters won’t come from comic books—they’ll come from video games.
Game worlds already have massive built-in audiences, rich lore, and strong emotional connections—everything the superhero genre used to have, but has long since burned out.
Games like God of War, Red Dead Redemption, Zelda—they’re not just games, they’re mythologies. This isn’t just a trend. It’s a generational shift.
If Hollywood is smart, they’ll get ahead of it instead of chasing nostalgia into the grave. If studios want cultural relevance—and box office survival—they’ll need to stop recycling the past and start adapting the worlds that Gen Z and Alpha are already living in.
Sound folks—what do you think? Are you sensing the shift too?
